Bruce Lee Facts and Fictions

Bruce LEE is the most worshiped action hero the world has ever seen to be more precise I would say the most worshiped Martial Artist of the 21st century! I am into martial arts and the reason for me to jump into MA is Bruce Lee, the first time I remember his movie clips is when I was 4 or 5 years old, he was walking on a wall in the middle of a fight in the movie "way of the dragon" and then as I grew up I got to hear more of his legends, strengths and achievements I couldn't believe when my father told me that he was no more! that made me even curious to know more about this man. The fight sequence which he was involved was mesmerizing, at such an young age I had never seen anything like that (nor till today) there where many reasons told for the reason for his death one among them was that he was poisend by some one close to him, I start to learn Martial Arts in the late 90's after completing one year I had a break in my practice and continued after a couple of years that was when I was completely submerged in martial arts and sometimes we would end up chatting about Bruce Lee and his "legends" it was only when I started to openly discuss more about martial art with my coach that made me to intake more on the facts and hypes given by the people in martial arts that really changed by view on Bruce Lee.

I still regard Bruce Lee as a great Martial Artist but I cannot accept the rumors people circulate in his name even the students and masters who practice martial arts are no exception from this wild ever growing web, once my uncle a bank manager told me that "Bruce Lee couldn't break walls thats why he died!" I was like whatttt??@#$@#% and he gave me the full version of his story that was told by his friends, he said that since he was put into a gas chamber and was asked to break the walls an escape (which is much like a challenge) and since he couldn't do it he was doomed..ufff.. I felt sorry for my uncle who in spite of being an intelligent person was ready to buy stories like these, in fact I read in a book that there are 12 very popular myths which people believe as the way he was killed and some of them are... The Chinese monks killed him for reveling the secrets of the Chinese art 2. he was killed by his competitors for his roaring success as a film artist, but this was just the tip of the ice berg even more stories revolve around the way he practiced and the skills which he owned

I strongly believe that Bruce Lee is the reason why martial arts is so popular today he is in fact indirectly responsible for the bread and butter for many martial art Masters the word "Karate" is popular because of him the first thought of "Karate" is Bruce Lee and his "wild scream". The irony is Bruce Lee started practicing Kung Fu and in fact most of the bad guys who he fights against in his movies is always a "Karate ka" ( A karate student/master ) Bruce Lee was a genius but I would think twice if some one says he is the "greatest" or the fighter who cannot be defeated to which I completely don't agree, he mesmerized the world with his action packed moves..that is in movies right? those are well choreographed movies, no stunts can wake you up sooo much in an emotional level as in his movies, that is where the trick is (if I can call it that way) you forget that its a movie..well you cannot blame Bruce lee for that, every Movies and all aspects of movies such as the songs, stunts, Background music and the camera angles want the audience to believe what they show, they want the impact that Bruce lee had in the peoples mind, I am afraid that as I write this blog I am turning against Bruce lee but I know I cant do that and that is not the reason I decided to write, how many of us have ever seen a real fight or practice sessions of Bruce Lee?? you would have seen him doing push ups in his two fingers, that is mind blowing agreed but what I want people to understand is that he is a movie star who had a great passion for Martial arts or a great Martial Artist who entered the tinsel town and who had an in depth knowledge of the fighting skills, I want people to accept as he his without exaggerating the facts.

Bruce lee is the universal ambassador for Martial Arts, what I want people to understand and appreciate is his interpretation of Martial Arts, he was against the traditional teachings of Martial Arts which many don't care to recall, which restricted the syllabus to all races and some technical moves which involved lots of energy, that is the reason he founded JKD Jeet Kune Do its much like Kickboxing a mix of simple Kicks and Boxing punches along with some particle techniques, he dint want it to be seen as another Martial Art Style but as a way of the art much like Buddhism.. I don't know how to convey that. In an another 500 years people may say that Bruce lee was god reincarnated to the world to teach and spread the knowledge of Martial Arts I don't want that to happen, lets respect and accept Bruce Lee as he is, its really insulting him if you are praising him for the things which he dint do, I love Bruce Lee for the guts, attitude and things which he achieved in a short span, he may not be the greatest fighter of all time but definitely the greatest one would have been inspired by him, NO DOUBT..
love to continue..

Are Martial artists' Victims or victor?

Are Martial artists' Victims or victor?

Are you a Martial Artist or a martial art Enthusiasts? Then this one is for you.

The most popular form of Martial arts is Karate, and today it is a MILLION DOLLAR industry. Majority of the clubs teach it in a SPORTS format, where there are certain rules and it has its own DOES and DON’T, and naturally you don’t practice in the way you fight in streets. You will be trained to win tournaments and win belts. Martial Arts in a sports format aims to win tournaments conducted by its associations and/or societies. This is mainly divided into 2 parts.

1. KUMITE (FIGHTING WITH AN OPPONENT) 2.KATA (FIGHTING WITH AN IMAGINARY OPPONENT).

FIGHTING METHOD IN MANY SPORTS KARATE CLUBS (NOT ALL CLUBS FOLLOW THESE RULES)
Some important fighting rules followed by the majority Karate clubs in the World
In sports tournaments

YOU HAVE TO TOUCH AND PULL BACK BEFORE 1 INCH OF YOUR TARGET (OPPONENT'S BODY).
IF YOU HIT (CONTACT) YOUR OPPONENT ONCE, YOU WILL BE GIVEN A WARNING.
SECOND TIME, YOU WILL BE GIVEN ANOTHER WARNING.
AND THE THIRD TIME YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.
HITTING ON YOUR OPPONENTS BACK IS FOUL.
ATTACKS BELOW THE HIP IS FOUL.

AFTER SCORING EACH POINT THE MATCH WILL BE Paused AND THE
REFEREE WILL ANNOUNCE THE POINTS AND THEN IT WILL CONTINUE.

By hitting your opponents face, throat or groin directly, you may be disqualified in the first warning itself, if the referee feels that if you have done it purposely.

Minor changes are made according to styles.

I REPEAT THIS IS THE CASE OF MAJORITY OF THE CLUBS IN THE WORLD, NOT ALL. There are Karate styles which follows FULL CONTACT FORMAT
Now if you practice in this method how you do expect to protect your self in the streets?

THINK!!!!!
Will you ask your opponent to hit in SELECTED AREAS?
Will you tell him to just TOUCH AND PULL BACK?
Or will you explain him the RULES IN WHICH YOU ARE TRAINED?

NO WAY

THIS CLEANLY SHOWS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE WAY A STUDENT PRACTISES IN
DOJO (CLASS), TOURNAMENTS ETC. AND THE WAY A PERSON FIGHTS IN STREET.

IT IS LIKE PRACTISING SWIMMING WITHOUT WATER AND PROMISING TO SWIM WHEN THE FLOOD COMES. Agreed there is no way to replicate a flood but you can certainly go as close as possible, that is what FULL CONTACT is all about.

IF YOU WANT TO SUCCESSFULLY FACE A STREET FIGHT, YOU SHOULD HAVE
AT LEAST FACED A SITUATION SIMILAR TO IT. YOU MUST HAVE EXPERIENCED PAIN (NOT PAIN BY EXERCISING)

YOU SHOULD BE READY FOR ANYTHING; THERE IS NO ONE TO STOP YOU WHEN YOU HAVE HIT YOUR OPPONENT ONCE OR WHEN YOU’RE INJURED, AS IN TOURNAMENTS. FRANKLY THE MORE "STARS" YOU HAVE COUNTED IN YOUR HEAD BEFORE, THE BETTER THE CONTROL YOU WILL HAVE :)

FACTS
MOST OF THE MASTERS HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED ANY REAL TIME STREET FIGHTS.
THE MORE RULES YOU FOLLOW, THE MORE DIFFICULT YOU WILL FACE IN STREET FIGHTS.
TECHNIQUES SHOULD BE TRAINED IN MUSCLE MEMORY TO BE FAST AND EFFECTIVE AND SHORT
THE MORE PROTECTIVE GEARS YOU USE THE MORE FEAR YOU WILL FEEL DURING STREET FIGHTS

SO???
It is up to you to decide that whether you are interested in collecting belts and certificates or you want to protect yourself in the streets.

Don’t get carried away by the demonstrations which you see, soon I will produce an ARTICLE featuring the demonstration and its tricks.

The next time you go into a Martial Arts club check out these points, rather than checking the Style, reputation and demonstrations of the of the club.
